Prof. Hatem Khater – Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Horus University – proudly highlights the pioneering steps taken by the Mechatronics Department in its field training program. This initiative reflects the faculty’s commitment to bridging academic knowledge with practical application, enhancing students’ skills, and preparing them for the labor market, under the patronage of Prof. Ibrahim Saber – Chairman of the Board of Trustees.
The department’s students continue their training program within several distinguished industrial and engineering institutions, including:
• Khalda Petroleum Company
• Alexandria Shipyard
• Damietta Port Cargo and Container Handling Company
In addition, a field visit was organized to Shoman Factory in New Damietta Industrial Zone, marking the conclusion of the training course on CNC mechanics and modern machining techniques. The visit included tours of several
departments:
• Conventional machining
• CNC Machines
• Quality control
• Assembly
• Electricity & PLC
During the visit, engineers – graduates of the Mechatronics Department, Faculty of Engineering, Horus University – currently employed in different sections of the company, guided the students and provided insights into the industrial and practical aspects, strengthening the link between theory and practice.
The visit was organized and coordinated by:
• Assoc. Prof. Maher Rashad – Head of the Mechatronics Engineering Department
• Assoc. Prof. Nevine Ismail – Director of the Training Unit
• Dr. Rania El-Banna – Training Coordinator, Mechatronics Department
• Eng. Ahmed Eid – Training Course Supervisor
Both the training program and the field visit offered our students a unique opportunity to closely experience real work environments, observe practical applications in mechatronics, control, mechanical systems, automation, and maintenance, while also developing communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. These experiences strengthen their readiness to compete in both local and international labor markets.
